Beginner Course - Session 3 & 4

Download as iCal file
Saturday 26 September 2020, 08:00 - 12:00
This repeat is an exception to the normal repeat pattern

Paddle with us!  If you're thinking of joining Maidstone Canoe Club and learning to paddle, you're in the right place!  Our beginner's courses are designed to give you the basic skills to control the boat.  Once you've completed the course, you'll have the confidence and abilities to join us on our trips, tours and regular paddles on the Medway and beyond.

COVID-19 UPDATE: The safety of our course participants, coaches and Club members is paramount during the current lockdown.  In line with guidance from both the Department of Health and our governing body, British Canoeing, we have introduced a number of measures aimed at keeping everyone safe both on and off the water.  This includes disinfecting boats, paddles and other equipment, altering our processes and procedures to enforce social distancing, and other measures.  Please click here to read about the precautions we currently have in place.  This means there are some limitations in what we are allowed to offer:

Please read:

  1. Al fresco changing rooms.  Unfortunately we are not allowed to open our Clubhouse changing rooms.  Please arrive dressed to paddle, and bring a large towel, plastic bag etc. to cover your car seat with in case you are damp on the way home.  (You may alternatively choose to change in the car park).  There are toilets available, but not for changing in!
  2. No kitchen facilities.  Please make sure you bring drinks / snacks / lunch as appropriate for the duration of your course.

Please note all courses must be pre-booked - all novice paddlers must attend one of our beginner courses.  Full details of the courses and how to get involved in paddling (including how to join the Club if you're already an experience paddler) are available on this page - please take a look if you haven't already.

Our courses cost £65 for adults and £45 for children, and are run by our friendly qualified coaches.  They consist of 8 hours coaching time - either 4 x two-hour sessions, 2 x four-hour sessions, or occasionally 1 x eight-hour session- and follow the syllabus for the nationally-recognised British Canoeing Discover Award.

Your coaches for this course will be John Simmonds.  The dates for this course are:

Session 1: Thursday 24th September

Session 2: Friday 25th September

Sessions 3 & 4: Saturday 26th September 8am - 12pm

If you can't attend one of the sessions, please let the coach know and we'll try to fit you in another time.  Please arrive at 5:30pm - we will aim to be on the water by 6pm.  Please make sure you've read our "What to Wear" page!

If you'd like to attend the course, please fill out the form below to sign up.  If you've got questions or have any problems, please contact us and we'll do our best to help.

See you on the water!

This course begins on Thursday, 24th September
