The Touring Award will start on Wednesday 13th September at 18.00. This is a 2.5 hour session at the clubhouse running through the Award and planning the Trips

The Award will be delivered on the water Monday 25th and Tuesday 26th September

It is expected you will have achieved your Explorer Award or be of that standard before starting the Touring Award.

The Touring Award develops your paddling skills to a higher level than the Explorer Award and ensures you are proficient at rescues in a sheltered water environment.

The Touring Award covers the important aspects of safely planning and executing a day’s trip on sheltered water. It will give you the confidence to plan and execute trips with other paddlers of your ability. Peer Paddles

Session 1

A 2.5-hour session (likely to be in the evening) looking at the content of the Award and the Assessment. Running through the theory content and planning trips for Session 3, subject to the weather. This is a classroom-based session at the club. Its essential participants attend session 1 before progressing to sessions 2 and 3.

 Session 2

This will include a short trip that might be near the club. The session will concentrate on effective stroke skills and rescues. At the end of session 2 details of session 3 will be decided and agreed. Approximately 5 hours

 Session 3

A full day’s paddle in a touring kayak followed by an assessment of paddling skills and rescues. Each paddler will need to rescue another paddler and be rescued. Approximately 6 hours plus travelling time.

It will be easier to practice your rescues skills in a warm pool before starting your Award. Suggest you attend the Pool Sessions
