Monthly Away Paddle - River Mole

Download as iCal file

Sunday 26 April 2015, 09:00 - 14:00

Saturday 25th  12:00

I have had a look at the Mole and it is low but we have paddled at this level before. It would be a bump and scrape and maybe walking in places. I have a mind to cancel but would paddle if others wanted to give it a try. Please contact me ASAP if you would like to still go

The first of our monthly "away" paddles, exploring local rivers in short stretches.  Nothing too strenuous, speak to Geoff for more

The trip is on the River Mole from Dorking to Fetcham, just past Letherhead, about 10 mls and will take about 3-4 hours with a stop for lunch. The flow on the Mole depends on the rainfall prior to the trip but is normally fairly slow. There is a sloping weir just after the start that can normally be shot but is easily portaged if necessary. The river passes by Box Hill and is very scenic in places, there are a few more minor weirs and rapids but in normal conditions the water is not deep and if you do capsize you will be able to stand up (mostly). This is a good river for beginners to white water paddling; there will be plenty of safety cover.

Meet at the club for a 9:00 am get away or at the start at Boxhill Road around 10:00 for car shufle. Take A25 from Reigate towards Dorking, shortly after the turn off for Brockham on the left take the Old Reigate Road on the right, turn left at the end onto Boxhill Road and go to the end.

I will be looking at water levels on Saturday 25th and will post any info the Latest News Page so keep a lookout for any cancellation or change of plans.

Disclaimer: all our trips are run by club members like you, and unless specifically described otherwise are peer paddles.  If you think that you would benefit from the support of a formal river leader or coach, please contact the trip organiser in advance - we can usually arrange something!  Otherwise you should be confident that your own ability matches the trip as planned.  If your trip is being led by someone - a more experienced paddler, river leader or a coach - it is your responsibility to mention any medical or other issues which may arise during the trip.
