Dart Trip - with WAM

Download as iCal file

From Friday 26 February 2016
To Sunday 28 February 2016

Once again WAM have kindly offered us spaces on their annual trip to the Dart.  If you're interested, please contact Paul Hignell or Alison (WAM) know as soon as possible; beds allocated on a first come, first served basis.  Details from WAM below:

"For those who don't know the Dart, this delightful Grade 3 section of the river requires a reasonably reliable whitewater roll. You should be competent at paddling in flow below the bridge at Yalding. In very high water levels, decisions will be made on suitability for paddling. We occasionally paddle the Walkham or the Tavy, depending on water levels. Last year, a small group also paddled the Upper Dart.

Accommodation for Friday and Saturday nights is in Powder Mills Bunkhouse, on the B3212 just north of Two Bridges (Grid reference SX628 769), where we have stayed for the last couple of years. The address is Powder Mills Bunkhouse, Princetown, Yelverton, Devon PL20 6SP; details athttp://www.powdermillsbunkhouse.co.uk. You need to bring a sleeping bag, pillow and towel. Plus warm clothing as the fire is sometimes slow to warm up the bunkhouse. Mobile phone signal is poor.

Food:
Cooked breakfasts for Saturday and Sunday, and an evening meal for Saturday will be provided. Please let us know if you are vegetarian. Everyone is expected to join in and help. There will be chocolate bars for on the river, a sandwich for the journey home, and tea and coffee. You will need to find your own food for Friday night, but cheese and biscuits will be available. Please bring any drink you want.

Cost:
The cost, including food, will be £35 per person. Please send cheques, payable to Whitewater Action Medway, to Gary Jenkins, 14 Jarrett Avenue, Wainscott, Kent ME2 4NL, or alternatively request bank details for a BACs transfer. We need 20 people to break even. Cheques will not be cashed before end-December. Cash can be paid at pool sessions.

The bunkhouse will accept dogs, but Martin at Powder Mills requests that the dogs are not long-haired and moulting, as he has to hoover"

Disclaimer: all our trips are run by club members like you, and unless specifically described otherwise are peer paddles.  If you think that you would benefit from the support of a formal river leader or coach, please contact the trip organiser in advance - we can usually arrange something!  Otherwise you should be confident that your own ability matches the trip as planned.  If your trip is being led by someone - a more experienced paddler, river leader or a coach - it is your responsibility to mention any medical or other issues which may arise during the trip.
