River Mole - Will go ahead on Sunday

Download as iCal file

Sunday 03 April 2016, 09:00 - 15:00

The river is fairly high but not in flood so we will paddle it with caution for any tress that are down.

The trip is on the River Mole from Dorking to Fetcham, just past Leatherhead, about 10 miles and will take about 3-4 hours with a stop for lunch. The flow on the Mole depends on the rainfall prior to the trip but is normally fairly slow. There is a sloping weir just after the start that can normally be shot but is easily portaged if necessary. The river passes by Box Hill and is very scenic in places, there are a few more minor weirs and rapids but in normal conditions the water is not deep and if you do capsize you will be able to stand up (mostly). This is a good river for beginners to white water paddling; there will be plenty of safety cover. The trip will only go ahead if the water conditions are considereded suitable, it may be too low or high. I will check on water levels on Sat 2nd and post details on the website news page.

We will need to shuffle cars prior to the start and get as many cars to the finish as possible, but parking at the end is a bit limited so it will be better to share transport as much as possible.

Directions: take the A25 out of Reigate and turn right on to the Old Reigate Rd  shortly after the turn off for Brockham. At the end of Old Reigate Rd turn left onto Boxhill Rd and park at the end. Alternatively  park in the Garden Centre just before Dorking and make contact with me over the footbridge so I know you have arrived. Meet at Club at 9am or at the get in at 10am.

Remember to bring lunch and a helmet.

Disclaimer: all our trips are run by club members like you, and unless specifically described otherwise are peer paddles.  If you think that you would benefit from the support of a formal river leader or coach, please contact the trip organiser in advance - we can usually arrange something!  Otherwise you should be confident that your own ability matches the trip as planned.  If your trip is being led by someone - a more experienced paddler, river leader or a coach - it is your responsibility to mention any medical or other issues which may arise during the trip.
