Maidstone Canoe Club

The Maidstone Marathon is when our club hosts the race and paddlers from all around the area will come to the club to race. 

It is traditional at these events, that the home team has a significant number of entries. You do not need to be in a racing kayak to participate, merely be capable of paddling up to East Farliegh and back before it gets dark. 

This year, we will also be making the event a social event, and organising a barbecue for Maidstone paddlers for after the race. I really want to emphasise the inclusiveness of this race. All paddlers at the club are welcome, indeed, encouraged to participate in the race, and then stay for the barbecue afterwards.

Although it is called the Maidstone Marathon, there are many different distances and catagories. The youngsters compete over a far shorter course, the more able racers go much further, but club paddlers in plastic boats would only need to go to East Farleigh and back, something many of you do quite regularly. 

This is a fantastic opportunity to support the club. If this has whetted your appetite and you would like to have a go in a K1 or K2, please come along on a Friday evening and someone will be very happy to introduce you to paddling in a racing boat. It is great fun and way more stable than many of you have been lead to believe. If you can't make a Friday, I'm sure that another time can be arranged.

We will also be looking for people to help with the race, the barbecue and baking cakes nearer the time
