What is it?

This is a two day training and assessment course, aiming for the participants to try and acheive their 3 Star Touring Award. This is an ideal course for anyone wishing:

• To gain their 3 Star without having to paddle on moderate water
• To learn more about journeying and paddling on trips
• To gain their 3 Star without having to be able to complete an eskimo roll

The course will cover:

• Lifting, carrying and launching
• Efficient paddling forwards, backwards and turning
• Moving sideways more effectively
• Support strokes, preventing a capsize
• Dealing with the environment; wind, current etc
• Peer and self rescues
• Towing
• Risk management and awareness of others
• Other theory such as: equipment, first aid, access, planning, navigation, etiquette etc.

the course will run on Sunday 4^th 0930 to 1630 traning and Sunday 25^th 0930 to 1630 assessment  at the club and yalling

Pre-requisites

For the training alone participants must either hold the 2 Star award or be at that level and be a minimum age of 14. If you wish to pass the course over the weekend you will need to have evidence of at least 3 different flat-water journeys of about 3 hours duration (10km) each with at least one of these in an open water environment. And also provide evidence of at least one session of about 3 hours duration in an alternative discipline.
