Maidstone Canoe Club

The course will cover:

• Lifting, carrying and launching

• Efficient paddling forwards, backwards and turning

• Moving sideways both static and on the move

• Support strokes, preventing a capsize

• Dealing with the environment; wind, current etc

• Peer and self rescues

• Towing

• Paddling as part of a led group

• Risk management and awareness of others

• Other theory such as: equipment, first aid, access, planning, navigation, etiquette etc.

Must off done training on the  Saturday 16^th September  and Sunday 17^th September 2017

Assessment on Sunday 8^th October at Gillingham 0900 to 1700

Pre-requisites

For the training alone participants must either hold the 2 Star award or be at that level and be a minimum age of 14. If you wish to pass the course over the weekend you will need to have evidence of at least 3 different flat-water journeys of about 3 hours duration (10km) each with at least one of these in an open water environment. And also provide evidence of at least one session of about 3 hours duration in an alternative discipline.
