Maidstone Canoe Club

This is a coaching weekend for those new to whitewater.  Paddling on moving water is the most fun you can have in a kayak!  We'll give you the foundation skills you need to move confidently around the river, breaking and and out of eddies, moving across the flow, and reading the river to find the best routes.

We'll be working on the fabulous River Dee, which is a lovely Grade 2 river in Llangollen, North Wales.  The variety of features, the gentle nature of the white water here  - and the cafe on the riverbank - make it probably the best training ground for moving water in the UK.  We'll be staying in the Springhill Farm, a lovely bunkhouse a short distance away.  The cost includes accommodation and breakfast, plus all coaching.  We've got a limited amount of personal equipment you can borrow, and will discuss this with you once you've booked.

This is suitable for anyone who has their 2* / Explore Award or equivalent experience.  If you haven't paddled moving water before, please contact Mark, Mary or Paul - we'll take you out on the Medway beforehand to look at some edging and other skills so you can get the most out of the weekend.
