Maidstone Canoe Club

Approx 10 miles. 

Arrangements:-

Meet at the MCC Clubhouse in time to depart at 8.30am. (Note early start!)

Drive in convoy to Seven Sisters Country Park, Exeat, Sussex, BN25 4AD.  OS Landranger Map No 199 GR519995. Estimated arrival 10:15am. It will be necessary to pay for parking (Approx. £4.00 and you will need coins)

Launch onto the Oxbow Lake 10:45 and paddle approx ½ km to the tidal River Cuckmere at Exeat Bridge GR514994.

Portage over embankment onto tidal river . Note: Information suggests that in order to have tidal assistance inland to Alfriston, it is necessary to get on the water here approx. 1½  hours before high tide, High Tide today is 12:11pm.  To avoid an impossibly early start from MCC we will aim to be here by  11:00am). It’s a Spring Tide so we get maximum help travelling inland.

Paddle inland to a point just beyond Alfriston (GR524036) where we will disembark and picnic while we wait for the tide to turn. (Arrive approx 12:30pm – Depart when current allows, say 13:30pm)

Return to Seven Sisters Car Park (estimated arrival 15:15pm – leave 15:45pm)

Return to MCC Clubhouse (estimated arrival 17:30pm)

All with ability to paddle a 10 mile tour on flat water welcome. Touring kayaks especially suitable but general purpose kayaks will be acceptable. Please bring packed lunch and wear suitable windproof/waterproof clothing.
