Level 1 Coaching - Subsidised Course

Bewl Canoe Club are running a heavily-subsidised Level 1 Coaching course in March / April 2013, dates to be confirmed.  The cost for this course will be £150.

Exe / Barle 3* Spaces

There are still a few spaces on the 3* training & assessment course next weekend (20th October) - contact Bill ([email protected]) or Niki, ([email protected]) for details and see the main calendar entry.

Stolen Boats

From Chris Edge, our PDO:

"Last Tuesday night Hunston CC, based in Chichester, had break in and a lot of their club's equipment was stolen:

  • -          2 dagger dynamos
  • -          6 infrareds
  • -          A redline
  • -          An RPM max
  • -          11 gremlin and ainsworth paddles
  • -          12 spray decks
  • -          11 buoyancy aids
  • -          Hayling trailer.
  • All boats are blue or red. Everything was locked to a high standard but the doors were smashed in and all the locks cut.

PLEASE CAN YOU ALL BE ON HIGH ALERT IF YOU ARE APPROACHED TO PURCHASE ANYTHING OF SIMILARITY AND CONTACT THE POLICE IMMEDIETELY."

Eldridge Lock, Porters Lock & East Lock Closure

These locks will be closed from 19-30th November for essential maintenance.  This won't affect canoes & kayaks particularly, but be aware that the portages are likely to be diverted / longer during this time.

Coaching Symposium - Dates Choices?

It is proposed that Maidstone Canoe Club hold a Coaching Symposium for both budding and qualified coaches.

Presentations will be both theoretical and practical. Any suggestions for inclusions will be gratefully received for consideration. If anyone would like to present or deliver a coaching session, that would also be acceptable. Subjects might include coaching techniques, forward paddling, open, racing, or kayak, freestyle etc.

It is suggested that the symposium be held during a weekend day in January: 5th or 6th, 12th or 13th, 19th or 20th, 26th or 27th. Please forward your date preference, and suggestions to Bill Norman, Chair of Coaching Development at [email protected]

The symposium will be offered to other clubs so that ideas and skills can be shared across a wider community of boaters.

Martin Howes Memorial Trophy Won By Maidstone

The inaugural Martin Howes Memorial Trophy was won by Duncan Moon and Adam Patient at the Medway Marathon.  They won division C K2, appropriately remembering Martin's interest in this race.  A superb effort to get their names as first on the trophy.

Racing Boat Store Paddles

Leanne & Dean have re-organised the racing boat store so that all Club paddles are on one side, and all private paddles are on the other.  Please ensure you put them back in the correct place.

More importantly, there is now no excuse for using other people's private paddles - use a Club one if you don't have your own.
