Book Launch on Darnet Island

Dave Wise is having a book launch - on Darnet Island, on the Estuary.  He will be running pinhole photography classes, exploring the island, learning how to forage for wild food and then running cooking demonstrations afterwards.   Karl Farrer, another local canoeist, will be painting and exhibiting inside the Victorian Fort on the island.

For more details, check out Dave's website and see below:

Safety Kayaker Awards

BCU Lifeguards are running a series of "Swim Event Safety Award (SESA)" courses.  These provide training in how to run safety at swim events, triathlons, etc.  There is always demand for safety kayakers and, occasionally, a small payment for it.  Open to all paddlers 14 years & over, with a 4-hour first aid course.  Our local course is probably Hastings, 11th May, but there are others listed here.  Contact [email protected] for more.

Mole Trip

In view of the weather, quite a bit of snow in Redhill and more forecast, I have decided to cancel the Mole paddle due for tomorrow, sorry. I will arrange another date in April and hope that the weather improves.

Zambezi Rafting Charity Challenge

A local wildlife charity, Care for the Wild, is running a rafting trip down the Zambezi; please see below if you may be interested in this.  Note this is not an MCC trip!

River Mole Trip 24th March

I have been informed that the Mole has been in flood and was considered too dangerous to paddle over the weekend by Noel Humphrey, the acsess officer. However, if there is not too much rain during the week it could be ok again by next Sunday. I will have a look at it on Saturday and will post on here whether the trip will be on or not so please check again on Saturday afternoon.

Padlocks for everyone!

Will all paddlers with a key to the boat sheds, both racers and general-purpose, please re-lock the padlocks when out on the water, rather than relying on the electronic locks?  While the electronic locks are good, we've had a number of people hanging around and trying the doors occasionally, and the padlocks are far more secure.  Particularly if there is a power cut, as happened last month, when the boat shed door drifted open as one member had relied on the electric lock ...

Thanks!

Paddling for the over-35s

Lee Valley are running paddling progression courses for those over 35, for those looking to make the transition to moving water or to improve on it.  Please take a look if you're interested.
