Rescues Thursday!

Just a quick reminder about the rescue & games refresher on Thursday - see you there!

Intro to Whitewater / Sea Paddling?

Our Intro to Whitewater will run in September as usual - dates TBC.  If this is something you're interested in, please look at the "Flatwater Skills for Dynamic Water Progression" sessions starting next week.  Some proficiency in these skills will be required for anyone interested in the Intro to WW course.

The skills on these sessions are also very applicable to sea kayaking - controlling your boat in dynamic water conditions.

No News Is Good News

On April 18th 1930, the BBC announced on their evening report that "there is no news".

This is unlikely to be repeated on April 18th, 2023.  Apart from anything else that may be happening in the world, it's the date of our next pool session, which is surely newsworthy enough for George Alagiah and Fiona Bruce.  See you there!

Giving back?

The wonderful thing about Maidstone Canoe Club is how much people are prepared to help each other.  All of us have, at some time, been taken down the river - the Medway or elsewhere - by more-experienced paddlers who have given up their time to make sure we're having fun.

With the beginner courses starting in less than two weeks, we're going to have an influx of newer paddlers - excited, eager to learn and have fun, but perhaps a little unsure.  We need helpers to be a friendly face, to make sure they're safe on the water and introduce them to new people.  We need you!

The Club's Paddlesport Activity Assistant program has been a huge success, and many of you reading this probably owe at least some of your paddling time to those wonderful people!  You can join them - even if you just help out once or twice a year, it makes a massive difference to our new paddlers and to the Club.

Please contact Jacob and he'll help you through the (short!) training paddle.  Thank you!

UPDATED: Rescue Course & Refresher

You wait for ages, and then two come along at once!  We've got two different rescue sessions coming up next month:

2nd & 9th May: Paddle Safer course - a coached structured course which is an intro to trip safety and rescues, aimed at those who haven't done any rescue training before

11th May: Rescue Refresher & Games session - a chance to practice rescues in a supportive and friendly environment, with a large dollop of fun & games thrown in!
