Paddlesport Activity Assistant

The Club is really keen to support our more-experienced members who are leading (or would like to lead) paddles for our newer members.  Organised mostly through the MCC2021 WhatsApp group (and always on the website), these paddles have been the mainstay in keeping our newer members on the water throughout lockdown.

Jacob & Lee have been working to put together a special Maidstone Canoe Club program to recognise these paddlers whohave been organising trips.  The new British Canoeing Paddlesport Activity Assistant qualification is the ideal way to do this.  It's a Club-specific program which takes into account all your existing experience, but also offers full training and support to less-confident aspiring paddle leaders.  The aim is that in future, all of these trips will be led by a qualified PAA (or other river leader / coach).  To this end, Jacob & Lee are going to run some sessions supporting this - to help them get organised, please register your interest using this questionnaire.  Thanks!

The Newsletter Returns ...

Like a bear emerging blinking from his cave after a long hibernation, the newsletter is back!  Or at least, it will be if you lovely people tell me what you've been up to.  Gear reviews, paddling stories, thoughts on courses you've been on (online or IRL), club news, book reviews, poems - everything very welcome, and doubly so if it comes with photos!

The deadline is May 20th, and you can send it to the usual address - [email protected]. Thanks in advance - the newsletter can't happen without you!

New Beginner Courses!

We are thrilled to be able to announce our beginner course dates for this year.  If you've been looking at the river and wondering how you get get on it, this is where you need to be!  Check out the details of the courses here, and then sign up online!

Back on the water - Explore Award

We're starting the season off with a slew of Explore Award courses to get us back in the swing of things!  These are the next step from the beginner course / Discover Award, and focus on building the skills and knowledge to take trips on rivers both local and further afield.  (The Explore Award is now required if you want to have a key for the boat shed).  If you're a bit rusty, it's also a great way to refresh your skills and hopefully learn some new ones too!

Courses are running on Monday evenings, Tuesday evenings, and a couple of Saturdays and Sundays also.
