First beginner courses complete!

Congratulations to all of those who completed our first couple of beginner courses last week!  We hope you enjoyed them, and look forward to seeing you on the river over the summer.

A particular shout out to Steve Atterbury, who turned up at the Club four weeks ago as a complete kayaking novice, and next week is undertaking the 215-mile Thames Source2Sea Challenge in aid of Macmillan Nurses.  Good luck!

Facebook Page

It looks like Facebook have deleted all the posts on the Club Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/MaidstoneCanoeClub again - they should hopefully be back shortly ...

Trip from Yalding to the Club

I am arranging a trip for the Mid Kent Outdoor Pursuits Group between Yalding and the club on Saturday 8th June, meeting at the club at 10:00am. If anybody from the club would like to join us they are more than welcome. Hopefully the canoe pass at Teston will be finished by then but if not we can portage the lock. Bring packed lunch.

Summer is here!

Despite the weather, summer is very definitely here - and so is the Summer Newsletter!  Click here to download it if it wasn't mailed out to you, and if you'd like to have it emailed automatically to you in future then put your email address in the box at the left of the page.

Happy Paddling!

Work Day at the Clubhouse

Good job by Aaron, Leanne, Brian, Zach, Jacob, Jane, Catherine, Keith & Geoff doing odd jobs and cleaning inside and outside the clubhouse. Our building needs regular repairs and maintenance so there will be regular workdays once a month. Look out here for the date of the next one and try to make it if you can.

Clubhouse Keys

If you use the key for the clubhouse kept in the boat store please make sure you replace in when finished, do not take it for your own personal use as it causes great inconvenience to other club members, Thanks

From the Committee: New Beginner Courses

Dear all,

For the remainder of 2013, we're trying out a new way of introducing beginners to the Club.  Wednesday and Sunday sessions will no longer be "Open" sessions for beginners to come along, but will be "Member" sessions for existing Club members to come along and paddle.

Beginners will be asked to join one of our Introductory Courses, which we're running throughout the year.  These courses consist of four 2-hour weekly sessions - by the end of the course, they will have the skills required to control the boat safely.  Please see the updated "Paddle With Us" page for more information.  Course dates can be seen here, and will be displayed on the Clubhouse.

If any beginners do turn up without being booked on a course, please ask them to book on one of the courses and come back to paddle then.

We will also be running a free "Come and Try" Open Day later in the year, details to be announced.

Thank you for your support.
