Litter Picks

Some club members were able to take part in a litter pick on Tuesday 14th Feb but being a week day many could not do so. Here is a link to KMTV coverage of the action. https://www.kentonline.co.uk/kmtv/video/kayakers-join-effort-to-clear-the-river-medway-of-plastic-54791/

There will be other litter picks arranged by the club this year which will be on a weekend. They will be advertised on here and other social media so please keep an eye out and join in if you can.

Whilst these organised litter picks do help,  a lot more rubbish is not collected so it is worth a bit of effort to gather this on normal paddles. However, please be aware of the dangers and hazzards of collecting items from the river wiithout a picker or gloves.

Pancake Pool Paddle!

Tuesday is - of course - Pancake Day, and what better way to burn off the excesses of a Shrove Tuesday fat-and-carbs meal than a session in the pool?  You could even give up capsizing for Lent!

New Door Entry System

Over the next few weeks we will have engineers in for our new electronic door entry system, If you have any valuables stored inside the club that you wish to remove please remove them before next week.

The new system will not be turned on untill keys have been given out - more information to come over the weeks

First Aid?

We've got a space become available on a 16-hour first aid course at the club on 4/5th March.  If anyone is interested please drop me a line - first come, first served!

#shepaddles

Maidstone Canoe Club were successful in their application for a bursary from British Canoeing for specifically training female coaches and leaders.

3 of our Members are beginning their journey to become Coaches and leaders.

Charlotte, Micheala and Carolyn are currently paddling and training.

Charlotte has passed her core Coach Modules, completed the White water safety and Rescue Course and completed a 16 hour Outdoor First Aid course to enable her to begin the White Water Leader Course.

Michaela and Carolyn have both completed their Paddle Sport Instructor Courses, which will enable them to run the Discover award for new paddlers, Carolyn has also completed her Paddle Sport Leader Course.

Michaela has also completed her 16 hr outdoor first aid as a stepping stone to further training.

Anyone for tea?

Apparently January is National Hot Tea month, which distinguishes it not at all from any other month, at least in my house.  Coincidentally, the same can be said of January's pool session (Tuesday 17th) - it will be the same as the pool session every other month's pool session, with warm water, friendly people, and expert coaching for those who want it.  See you there!

Cold, fast & muddy

The river is currently flowing very fast, it's very cold, and it's very muddy.  These are just three of the reasons to come to the session at the pool next week, which is clear, warm and clean!
