Bulgaria Trip 2013

Tony is organising a trip to Bulgaria this year, paddling some grade 2/3/4 rivers with a professional local guide.  The trip will run from May 25th - June 1st, and cost around £360 including flights!  Please see the itinerary attached and contact Tony Nitzov, [email protected] for details - this should be a fantastic trip to a beautiful and often-overlooked country.

New Year's Resolution - Become A Coach!

Happy New Year!

The Club is going to be running a Level 1 Coaching course this Spring.  It's going to be cheap - £150 - and worthwhile.  Pre-requisites (FSRT and 2*) will be organised on demand.  This is a fantastic opportunity to improve your paddling knowledge, to give something back to your Club, and to gain an internationally-recognised, transferable qualification at a bargain price!

We need people to commit to this, so we're going to organise the two training weekends around you.  Please visit this forum thread and let us know you are interested, and any weekend dates you can / can't make in March and April this year.  We need to know by 23rd January.  Speak to any coach, or email me, if you have questions or just want to talk about the possibilities.

Please make this your New Year's Resolution!

River Stour - Change of Plans

Because of the possibility of flooding Norman has decided that we will only paddle the Stour if river levels are not too high. If the rain continues and the Medway is in flood on Friday we will paddle down from Yalding instead of the Stour, the final decision wiil be made at 9:00pm at the club.

If you were intending to go straight to Canterbury please come to the club instead. If we paddle the Medway there will be Bacon Butties and Hot Dogs at the club after the paddle.

Aquatic First Aid Congratulations

Congratulations to Geoff, Andrea, Ian & Rowan for passing their aquatic first aid course yesterday, and further congratulations to Lee for becoming a first aid provider!

Teston Tomorrow?

There's flow on the river, so be prepared for a run down from Teston tomorrow (23rd December) before Mince Pies at the Club!

River Beult Project - Launch Event

The Medway Valley Countryside Partnership is launching a project to restore the River Beult, which flows into the Medway.  They're having an event to mark the launch, at which they are soliciting feedback from interested river users.  The date is Thursday, 24th January - 7pm at Linton Village Hall.  This is an opportunity to begin opening up a river which currently does not have an access agreement, and flows through some very private land.  If you are interested in attending or would like to share your views, please mail the organiser, Andrea Griffith.  It would be good to have a representative of Maidstone Canoe Club at this event!

Mince Pies

After paddle Mince Pies at the club on Sunday 23rd., and at the request of Norman and Paul H possibly a tin of QS. All welcome.

Safeguarding Children Course

A bit short notice, but there's a Safeguarding Children course running on Wednesday, 12th December, 6pm for those coaches that need it.  It's at the Adventure Dolphin Centre, cost £10.  Contact Sue Lock, [email protected] or 0118 9843162.
